HOLIDAY
WINE PAIRING
Scheid Vineyards offers another reason to give
thanks this Turkey Day with their red, white
and new wines.

Regardless of where you fall on the “red
or white with turkey” debate, experts point
out that the modern Thanksgiving menu is actually
perfect for some of both, considering how little
today’s holiday meal resembles those of previous
decades. In many households, there may be a bird
with stuffing, but the stuffing is more likely
to be made with fennel, pine nuts, and preserved
lemons, and the bird may very well be quail. Holiday
diners may choose game over turkey, demi-glace
instead of gravy, and the cranberry sauce is more
likely a compote, and is certainly not from a can.
White wine drinkers will want to look for something
with a little structure that lends complexity without
overpowering the meal. For the Scheid
Vineyards Pinot
Blanc, winemaker Dave Nagengast used a combination
of small oak barrels and stainless steel fermentation
to achieve a perfect balance of ripe fruit flavors
and richness. A full mouth feel and a lingering,
elegant finish of vanilla and subtle spice will
enhance the Thanksgiving menu.
The classic red wine pairing for Thanksgiving
is Pinot Noir, which works perfectly without overwhelming
the meal due to its mild tannins. Scheid’s
2005 Estate Pinot Noir is a lush, full-bodied wine
with aromas of black cherry and a long, smooth
finish with hints of vanilla. This delightful Pinot
Noir would be a perfect choice to bring to your
dinner host or to serve with your own holiday meal,
whether it is traditional or innovative.
